Supporting Immigrant Students in OST Programs: A Trauma-Informed Approach for Frontline by Sara Fernandez-Marcote

January 7, 2026 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Out-of-School Time (OST) programs play a vital role in supporting immigrant and refugee youth as they adapt to new environments, navigate cultural transitions, and cope with stressors that can impact their learning and well-being. This training equips OST staff with practical, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed strategies to create welcoming spaces where immigrant students can thrive. Participants will learn about the unique challenges immigrant youth may face, how trauma can affect behavior and engagement, and concrete approaches to fostering trust, safety, and belonging. Through interactive discussions and real-world examples, attendees will leave with tools to strengthen relationships, support resilience, and promote positive outcomes for immigrant students. Facilitator will also share pertinent resources for immigrants in Philadelphia.
